Jake
Jake is our number one priority in our family, and we pray every night for him to be seizure free and healthy.
In 2012 when we started learning about the possibility of cannabidiol (CBD) potentially helping our son, we became very interested. Jake is 13 years old, non-verbal and is classified as Multi-Handicapped. We think he is wonderful, and firmly believe that CBD could potentially help his seizures, spasticity, and overall development. Jake has seizures that last from 20 minutes to 2 hours and can cause increased developmental delay, and many other complications. It has always been a fear of ours that our sons’ life would be shortened due to a seizure. We would love an opportunity to try a less harmful drug for his seizures, especially one that can improve his quality of life and overall functioning.
We are retired military and have lived in Wichita Falls, Texas, where Jake was born. We were then sent with the military to Omaha, Nebraska. A very cold state, but they had wonderful services for families. When we retired we wanted to be in Texas due to the supports they offer retired military members and to be near family. We also knew of great hospitals in Dallas, so Jake’s Orthopedic Impairments would always be well taken care of. After we moved here we realized other states were making progress with legalizing CBD but the State of Texas had made no progress. My husband and I talk about moving to another state to get CBD for our son, but we LOVE the State of Texas. Families should not have to move to get help for their children. Jake is medically complex and beautifully made.
Just before my 3rd birthday my seizures began. I had to go on Depakote after a few failed trials with other prescription medications. When I turned 5 years old my seizures became worse. My seizures have been called Refractory Seizures. I added a 2nd seizure medication. I was also diagnosed with CP, and Autism.
